Hydeaway Bay , Queensland!

Hi Everone I have been away over the last week to Hydeaway Bay in Queensland - what a beautiful place!
The students produced stunning work and I really hope they continue on their own felting adventure.
Here are some pics taken over the week.

We did 2 days of Patchwork felt where a study of colour of pattern was covered. Then we embarked of seamless felt and finally nuno where the scarves were just magic!

A few shots taken on early morning walks. A great way to start the day. I hope to live by a beach one day.
Have a happy week

Square Heads

Dear Friends
Well bookings are rolling in which is wonderful - with some classes nearly booked out - so thankyou!

Here are my new SQUARE HEADS! I just love painting them. It started as an exercise to stop doing the pretty girly face that I have been doing for years. Giving myself licesnse to use all the colours was the best thing because now I have plenty of reason to trial every colour combination instead of adhering to the traditional flesh tones.

Some are available now - ready to hang or applique to a bag or ipad cover or turn into a little purse or frame     www.frostfair.etsy.com

What are you giving yourself licesnse to do in your creative endeavours?

I hope you are having a restful weekend,
Much love

Newsletter No 3 - New classes!

Welcome to Newsletter Number 3

Winter is certainly here - it's time to get felting!

Hi Everyone
Well it has been a really busy time since the last update!  I have been teaching a great deal which is my absolute delight as you know. A new felt installation at Livingstone Primary School here in Melbourne has been received by the community with delight.
Over the last few months I have been teaching away a great deal - the poor studio is in a bad state and looks like a packing room not a place to have fun in! I was lucky enough to teach at the Felt Retreat in Ballarat for a week as well as workshops in Yeppoon, Bendigo, Drysdale, Yarragon and in 2 weeks I will be back up to Queensland to the Whitsundays. Can this really be a job?

Here at home in the studio, I will be teaching the following classes over the next few months.

Beginners Felt If you are ready to dip your toe in the wool then don't hesitate! Making felt is a very satisfying pursuit and the results are just sensational!

Nuno Felting Techniques.  This class will enable you to learn several methods for creating beautiful scarves rather than just one. It will run for 2 weeks.
In Week 1 four methods will be covered where a sample of each will be achieved.
In Week 2 you can select one of these to make a full size scarf.

Collage Birds continues to be so popular it is amazing how many breeds have evolved!
A 2 week class with plenty of scope for designing your own feathered friends.

Seamless Vessels - This is a great class where I will be teaching the seamless technique  to create some stunning vessels. You may decide to create a bag, vessel  or other creature instead!

Fantastic Figures - I always love creating images of the figure. This is a canvas and felt class where we make flat character dolls for the wall. Loads of fun and always surprising!

The ever cheerful Monsters will also be on the agenda. You can't have too many in my opinion!

A new class Patchwork Felt. This class is a series of 4 workshops. Understanding colour and pattern will be the prime focus and how to achieve a stunning piece of wall art will be our goal. Perfect for the beginner or more advances student. For two weeks we will create a variety of patterned felts. By week 3 we will arrange and piece them all together so they are ready to be felted in Week 4. These pieces are quite large so class size will be limited to 3 students.

Felt Folio 1 must surely be my most popular class. Now into its' 12th year (golly!) it runs for 5 weeks with a new felting technique each week. Felto Folios 2 and 3 can also be scheduled after number 1 has been completed.

New Classes for 2014!

Newsletter No.2

Welcome to 2014!

Welcome to the New Year! I hope everyone has recovered from this most unusual weather over the last few weeks and that all your loved ones are safe and well.

I hope you are all ready to plunge into a wonderful year of feltmaking. If you haven't started yet, then I hope this is your year to have a go!

For all those new students that have enrolled over the last few months, it has been a real delight to welcome you to the studio! I look forward to seeing you again when you are ready for another adventure.

This is shaping up to be a very busy year for me, with a lot of work away interstate as well as some exciting school jobs. So lots more colourful woolly gorgeousness on the way!
I have listed quite a few dates below for classes I will be doing over the next couple of months before things get too busy!

If you would like to learn a feltmaking technique that is not listed, please do not hesitate to ask me and we will sort a date out for you. If you have a few friends and would like to come as a group, just let me know and we can find a day for you to come together.
I will be doing my first Felting Hen's Party in a couple of weeks - how exciting!

Whatever your creative endeavours for 2014 I hope you will find time to do some felting - the most magical of all textiles
With love
Elizabeth

Nuno Scarves

Felting onto silk or cotton can produce a beautiful featherweight felt known as NUNO.  Perfect for a more glamorous felt. ideal for wearing!

Monsters!

These happy monsters are such fun to make. You can make them as weird and as odd as you like! Perfect for a beginner or more experienced felter, these stitched characters stand about 40 - 45cm high although you could make them in any size.

Felt Flowers

Felt is a super medium for creating flowers. They are easy to wear with an outfit or to add to a handbag and I just love a whole bunch in a vase!  Further details can be added with cords and balls for centres and stamens.

Embroidering felt

There are so many amazing ways to embroider felt! This class will cover both hand and machine work. A perfect opportunity to study ways in which to bring a dull felt to life with stunning detail.
Suitable for the beginner.

Collage Birds

Little collage felt birds cover a range of techniques that will enable you create some stunning felted friends.  You can make a whole flock for a wonderful display. Weighing in at no more than a few feathers, they make the ideal gift to post to friends and family!

Beginners Felt

Getting started on felting is such a wonderful journey!  During this class you will get confident handling wool and discovering all the gorgeous fabrics and fibres that you can add to create a beautiful textured panel. We will also cover making balls and cords.

Russian Dollies

Seamless felt looks so mystifying – unlock the secrets of its creation! It's the perfect technique if you would like to create a bag or figure or vessel. Suitable for the student who knows the basics of felt making.
